Do you know what your gut is saying?
Gut Week is coming (23-29th August), but ahead of this key digestive awareness week, it seems that millions of Britons are confused as to how they can identify the health messages that their digestive systems are providing.
According to a recent survey by www.loveyourgut.com, 81% of people are clueless about the health signs their digestive systems are giving them, with 74% of people saying they rarely pay attention to their guts!
But getting greater understanding could be the key to better health, says The Gut Trust's Dr Nick Read.
" Many people aren't aware that the body's immune system is located in the gut, so looking after it is a key part of looking after the whole body. In order to maintain good gut health it's important to understand how the digestive system communicates with us so that you can be aware of any unusual symptoms you might experience.
"You wouldn't ignore a nasty rash on your face, which could be a sign of anything from an infection to an allergy, so why ignore a sight, sound or feeling from your gut, which could also be a sign of something wrong, or a reassurance that all is ok? Think of your digestive system as a built-in, highly sophisticated wellness indicator."
